Mountain Pass

Palette: Cretaceous-16 [ https://www.pixilart.com/palettes/cretaceous-16-14046 ] Lore (by @revolutioneevee ): "High in the mountain passes were steep cliffs and bridges of weathered stone , where civilization had once made its mark. Dull red-shingled roofs spread their patch-tile wings over the weather-beaten terracotta houses and huts, their open windows snuffed dark like rabbit holes. Green foliage and fingers of vines overran the place, smothering the rough stone walls, hanging from the precarious stone overpasses, twisting among the barely serviceable ladders, and crawling over the roofs and buildings. Every sound resonated in the canyon. Far above was a stone-carved bridge, its pillars not having given up their ardurous task of holding up the decade-laden roof, leading off into the heart of the mountain. Many of those passages were blocked off by nature's will, which had sent crushing boulders and rubble to cover these entrances and hide the secrets in their dark mountainous tomb. A wrong step would mean empty air instead of stone and nearly certain demise. All that lived here now were the vines and the canyon nesting birds, who obnoxiously voiced their shrill territorial screeches into the endless void in the canyon. Where did they go? What still remained? Is there anything of interest that still remains? The stones remained silent. Far off, another round of birdcall ripped through the air. There was certainly more than meets the eye. "
